Do I need special skills to benefit from Herd Navigator?

All herd managers can benefit from Herd Navigator.

The information from Herd Navigator will be presented on a computer screen as figures & graphs and most importantly the Standard Operation Procedures.

Checking on attention cows is a simple daily routine.

Everyone can learn this and the major part of the education will be done at the farm and adjusted to the herd manager’s skills.

How much time do I have to spend in front of the computer to get maximum benefit from the system?

This is very individual.

It is considered that the normal standard routines only will be 5-10 minutes per day. But the system offers at lot of valuable information, which will be beneficial for a lot of farmers. And in this case there will be extra computer time.

Who offers advise and how is the advisory services done?

In Denmark Dansk Kvæg has appointed and trained advisors responsible of all advisory services related to the use of Herd Navigator in respect to the specific herd manager, his herd, demands and strategies.

DeLaval will offer advice with respect to building, upgrading milking parlours, installation and service.

Who will help with interpretation of data and consequently advice on actions?

Herd Navigator will have built-in Standard Operating Procedures. These SOPs have to be adapted to the individual farmer’s needs and strategies. This is initially done by the Herd Navigator advisor in cooperation with the farmer and his/her advisor/ veterinarian for the first year. Once in daily operation the farm advisors will help the dairy farmer to interpret and eventually adjust the SOPs.

Who owns data generated on the farm?

The milk producer is the sole owner of all data produced on the farm. However, the bio-models are the property of Lattec I/S.
The farmer decides who can access the data or selected data and he alone can authorise who can get access.

Can Herd Navigator replace the monthly milk recording?

At this stage the conventional herd recording is unchanged, but our target is to automate the sample taking.

Later when we have the fat & protein option ready it will not be necessary to do sample taking for the fat and protein milk recording.

There will still be a huge value in information from the monthly milk recording to benefit from the Herd Navigator output.
